Job Summary:

The Driver - Environmental Services is responsible for performing various activities related to environmental services, including transporting linen and other items, loading and unloading trucks, and performing minor repairs and preventive maintenance checks on vehicles. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transportation:
    • Transport linen and other items to off-site facilities served by the Regional laundry.
    • Load and unload trucks.
  • Maintenance:
    • Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance checks on trucks by checking and replenishing all fluid levels (fuel, water, oil, etc.).
    • Maintain maintenance logs for vehicles.
  • Logistics:
    • Maintain personal driver record of duty status and/or a driver's logbook.
    • Advise the Manager, Environmental Services or the Supervisor, Environmental Services of all required repairs to the truck or equipment and arrange for the necessary repairs to be done by the appropriate service department.
  • Support:
    • Assist in the training and/or orientation of Environmental Services staff and students.
    • Assume responsibility for following departmental procedures to ensure consistency and quality of service is maintained throughout the Environmental Services Departments.
  • Housekeeping:
    • Collect and sort soiled linens.
    • Weigh and record soiled linen to be processed.
    • Operate laundry equipment when necessary.
    • Distribute laundry and linen as appropriate.
    • Ensure all equipment is clean and operating efficiently.
    • Clean assigned areas in accordance with current established cleaning schedules and infection control guidelines.
    • Prioritize and complete extra cleaning duties within established timeframes and in accordance with current cleaning schedule.
    • Conduct daily tours of areas of responsibility prior to end of shift, inspecting each area for cleanliness.
    • Restock supplies in all areas, as required.
    • Assist with inventory procedures.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Environmental Services or the Supervisor, Environmental Services.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects.

Working Conditions:

The Driver - Environmental Services will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to dust, dirt, and other environmental hazards. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and be able to lift and move heavy objects.
