Energy Systems Researcher

About the Role:
The Cascade Institute is seeking a highly skilled and motivated researcher to join our team as a Cascade Institute Fellow, Energy Systems. This is a temporary, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week for an approximate two-year term. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting applied research and analysis to accelerate the local, national, and global energy transition.
About the Institute:
The Cascade Institute is a research institute focused on addressing complex global challenges, including climate change, sustainable development, and energy transition. Our team is comprised of experts from various disciplines, including energy systems, sustainability, and climate change.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct applied research and analysis to accelerate the local, national, and global energy transition
- Develop and implement research projects to address energy system challenges
- Collaborate with team members to develop and implement research projects
- Communicate research findings to stakeholders through various channels
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including industry partners, government agencies, and community groups
Requirements:
- Masters degree or doctorate in a relevant discipline
- Demonstrated expertise in complex systems understanding of energy systems, worldviews, and scaling up community/local-level energy system innovations
- Experience working on collaborative/team projects and interdisciplinary projects
- Demonstrated ability to write with exceptional analytical clarity and effectively tailor outputs for different types of readers
- Experience communicating research findings beyond journal articles and academic conferences
- Demonstrated ability to present research findings orally in a clear and compelling manner
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working at a research institute, think tank, or research-focused NGO
- Experience managing complex projects
- Experience using horizon scanning/scenario planning methods
