Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Journeyperson Welder to join our team at Powell Canada Inc. As a key member of our Electrical Division, you will be responsible for producing high-quality precision parts and constructing our products using a variety of welding processes and tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble structural steel and sheet metal products using MIG and other welding processes.
  • Set up and operate welding machines, including CC and CV welding machines, to achieve desired quality results.
  • Perform light maintenance on welding equipment, including replacing contact tips, nozzles, and liners.
  • Operate plasma cutters, automatic band saws, and Mag drills to cut and shape materials.
  • Participate in Powell's ongoing Safety Training and promote a safety culture within the team.
  • Assist Lead Persons with training and mentoring other employees.
  • Ensure quality by following standard work instructions and identifying potential risks to product quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Requirements

  • Valid Provincial or Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Welder or Journeyperson Fitter certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Journeyperson in related structural steel fabrication.
  • MIG experience is considered an asset.
  • CWB Certification FCAW S-classification is required.
  • CSTS 2020 Fundamentals and 8 additional modules will be required before hire date.
  • Overhead crane ticket and forklift operation ticket are considered assets.
  • Safety certifications are an asset for the position.

Working Conditions

  • Temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personnel protective equipment at all times, including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety harnesses as required.
  • Must be able to work from various types of ladders and scaffolding.
  • Working at heights usually no higher than 30 feet in the air using proper lift equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction in a repetitive manner continuously.
  • Continuous standing, walking, and occasional sitting.
  • Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout the shift.
  • Able to frequently look over shoulders, work with both arms above shoulders, and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force continuously up to 50lbs.
