Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Playground Equipment Inspector to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a key member of our Parks and Recreation department, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and maintenance of our playgrounds, courts, and other recreational facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of playground equipment and facilities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs to playground equipment, including welding, carpentry, and electrical work
  • Collaborate with contractors and manufacturers to ensure proper installation and maintenance of playground equipment
  • Develop and implement digital record-keeping programs to track maintenance and inspections
  • Coordinate and oversee contracted work to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of projects
  • Provide technical information and assistance to supervisors and other staff members
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including hand and power tools, and light and medium equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the maintenance and operation of our recreational facilities
Requirements
  • Technical knowledge related to playground equipment and maintenance
  • Basic knowledge and experience in the use of carpentry tools
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous experience directing, coaching, and mentoring subordinate staff
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
  • Current CPRA Certification in Playground Inspections and Maintenance
  • Welding training from a recognized institution
  • Experience in a computerized environment, including working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week. The incumbent will be required to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors in all weather conditions, and may be required to work at heights and in confined spaces.
