Chief Estimator

At MatchBox Consulting Group, we are seeking a highly skilled Chief Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our pre-construction team, you will play a crucial role in providing accurate and competitive cost estimates for high rise and Institutional, Commercial, and Industrial (ICI) projects in the Greater Vancouver Area.

The successful candidate will lead a team of estimators and collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure the successful completion of projects within budgetary constraints. Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and managing the estimating team to develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for high rise and ICI projects
• Analyzing project documents, specifications, and drawings to understand project requirements and scope of work
• Conducting thorough quantity take-offs and material pricing to determine project costs
• Collaborating with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive bids and pricing for various project components
• Utilizing estimating software and tools to prepare detailed and organized estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs
• Reviewing and analyzing subcontractor proposals and negotiating pricing to ensure cost competitiveness
• Providing value engineering recommendations to optimize project costs without compromising quality
• Participating in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required
• Developing and maintaining relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry professionals to enhance bidding opportunities and procurement processes
• Preparing and presenting detailed cost estimates, budgets, and proposals to senior management for review and approval

To be successful in this role, you will require:

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in construction estimating, with a focus on high rise and ICI projects
• Proficiency in construction estimating software such as Bluebeam, Procore, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex project documents and specifications
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients
• Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes/regulations applicable to high rise and ICI projects in the Greater Vancouver Area
