Your Opportunity:
As a vital member of the multi-disciplinary care team at Alberta Health Services, Health Care Aides play a crucial role in delivering direct healthcare services to patients. In this position, you will assist in providing quality patient care, focusing on the physical and emotional wellbeing of individuals under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Your responsibilities will encompass a range of duties, including aiding patients with daily living activities, personal hygiene, mobility support, and assisting with various healthcare tasks as required.
Role Overview:
In the capacity of a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team to offer personal assistance and support services to patients who may need short-term or ongoing care. This will be in alignment with the established patient care plan and the policies of the facility. Your work will involve direct interaction with patients, their families, and caregivers, ensuring that their hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreational, and safety needs are met. You will also assist in organizing activities and programs while observing and reporting on the patients' moods, health status, and overall wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with daily living activities and personal care.
- Support nursing staff in providing routine care.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Observe and report changes in patients' conditions.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed a Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and maintain active status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program, having completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum, may also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Current CPR certification is mandatory. Experience working with individuals across the entire age spectrum, including seniors, is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Courses in Supportive Pathways, Palliative Care, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), and It's Your Move are advantageous. Experience in seniors' health is considered an asset.
