Position Overview:
Join the Health & Counselling Centre (HCC) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) as a dedicated professional focused on enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of students. This role is designed for a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist who is passionate about providing support to 2SLGBTQIA+ students and those exploring their gender and sexual identities.
About the HCC:
The HCC is a multidisciplinary health clinic that offers a range of services including medical care, mental health counselling, and health education tailored to a diverse student body. Our mission is to empower students to make informed health choices, foster resilience, and support their academic success through accessible and inclusive resources.
Your Role:
As a key member of our counselling team, you will:
- Deliver individual and group counselling sessions, focusing on the unique needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ students.
- Utilize an anti-oppressive framework to provide psychotherapy and life coaching to students from various backgrounds.
- Conduct assessments to identify mental health concerns and refer students to appropriate resources as needed.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions aimed at promoting mental health awareness and support within the student community.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive support for students facing emotional and psychological challenges.
Qualifications:
To excel in this position, candidates should possess:
- A Master's Degree in social work or counselling/psychotherapy, with registration as an independent member of the relevant professional body.
- A minimum of five years of clinical experience in community mental health settings.
- Experience working with 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and familiarity with the specific challenges they face.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and cultural competency.
