The Role: The Student Life department is seeking Student Assistants to contribute to the development and execution of student leadership initiatives while also supporting various related events and activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and execution of student leadership programs and events.
  • Collaborate with students and campus partners to establish learning outcomes and programming.
  • Manage event registrations and maintain communication with participants.
  • Engage in regular meetings with the Student Life Coordinator.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Must have been a Douglas College student for at least one academic year.
  • Involvement in campus activities (e.g., clubs, volunteer work, or previous student assistant roles) is essential.
  • Experience or knowledge in event planning is preferred.
  • Ability to handle issues with maturity and thoughtfulness.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, responsible, and adaptable.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Open-mindedness towards diverse cultures, practices, and orientations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work at multiple campuses.
  • Basic proficiency in Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Leadership experience is an asset.

Eligibility Criteria:

Domestic students must meet one of the following:

  • Enrolled in at least one (3 credit) course at Douglas College during the work term.
  • Previously enrolled in at least one (3 credit) course at Douglas College and intend to enroll in the following term.
  • Enrolled in at least two (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. during the work term.
  • Previously enrolled in at least two (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. and intend to enroll in the following term.

International students must meet one of the following:

  • Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
  • International students at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit that allows for employment.
