Position Overview:

Under the supervision of the Support Services Coordinator, the Culinary Specialist is tasked with the safe preparation and delivery of meals for residents, visitors, and staff. Utilizing standardized recipes, the Culinary Specialist ensures portion control and adheres to production sheets to determine the necessary quantities of food to fulfill menu specifications. This role emphasizes safe food handling practices and sanitation in accordance with Ontario Regulation 243/84 under the Health Protection and Promotion Act. Additionally, the Culinary Specialist provides guidance to the Food Service Staff to guarantee that daily responsibilities are executed efficiently and punctually.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Cook's diploma from an accredited institution and/or possession of the Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Classification.
  • Ability to obtain the Food Handlers Certificate from Public Health Services within 60 days of employment, with renewal every five years.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in large-scale cooking and meal preparation.
  • Proficiency in reading, understanding, and writing in English; capable of following both verbal and written instructions.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and sanitary workspace.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing, bending, lifting, and moving items of various weights.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality, with the ability to meet established deadlines for meal preparation. Adherence to health and safety regulations and maintaining a professional appearance is essential.
