About the Department: The Department of Indigenous Learning at Lakehead University is an interdisciplinary program that encourages students to develop a deep understanding of Indigenous intellectual traditions and Indigenous/settler relations.
Job Summary: We are seeking a well-rounded candidate who balances research with a commitment to teaching and service. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Indigenous communities, innovative pedagogical practices, and experiential learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and develop courses in Indigenous Learning, including experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery;
- Conduct research in Indigenous Studies, with a focus on community relationships and Indigenous knowledges;
- Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations;
- Participate in departmental and university service, including curriculum development and program evaluation;
- Contribute to the development of Indigenous Learning programs and initiatives.
Requirements:
- PhD in Indigenous Studies or an Indigenous Studies-related field;
- Experience working with Indigenous communities in the northern regions of Turtle Island and organizations outside of academe;
- Experience grounded in community relationships;
- Experience with innovative pedagogical practices;
- Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery;
- Lived experience as an Indigenous person with strong ties to Indigenous nation(s) and Indigenous knowledges.
