Nuclear Facility Operations Specialist

The Mechanical Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in the upkeep and management of various mechanical systems, including steam, chilled water, compressed air, HVAC systems, purified water, and gas supply.
This position is classified as a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW), which is defined under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act. This classification applies to individuals whose job responsibilities involve potential exposure to nuclear substances or facilities, where there is a reasonable likelihood of receiving radiation doses exceeding the public limit of 1 mSv per year for the whole body.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate testing protocols and maintenance schedules for essential safety systems and control mechanisms to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
- Utilize a computer-controlled Building Management System to access necessary information.
- Uphold and adhere to quality assurance programs, systems, and procedures to maintain compliance with ISO/GMP standards.
- Conduct maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems and equipment using current industry practices.
- Observe work processes to identify and implement enhancements that improve service delivery, functionality, or repair processes.
- Comply with all safety protocols established by the organization.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 education is required.
- Certification as a Stationary Engineer is mandatory.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in building maintenance, manufacturing, or process industries is essential.
- An Ontario Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate and other relevant qualifications would be advantageous.
Additional Requirements
- Flexibility to work required shifts, including overtime and on-call duties.
- Ability to lift up to 10 kg frequently.
- Capability to climb ladders.
- Willingness to wear a respirator for extended periods when necessary.
- Occasional work in proximity to asbestos, with strict adherence to safety protocols and personal protective equipment as part of the Asbestos Management Program.
- Participation as a member of the Emergency Response team.
Training Required
Completion of all mandatory training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker is required.
