Job Summary:

The Government of Northwest Territories is seeking a Relief Support Assistant to provide support and assistance to students with special needs in an educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with instruction and provide support to students with special needs, ensuring a successful and meaningful learning experience.
  • Work with special needs students and assist with the implementation of Student Support Plans to promote a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence.
  • Provide instruction in core academic subjects, such as reading, writing, and mathematics, to special needs students in a wide range of grade levels.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, teachers, and other stakeholders to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement strategies to support students with special needs.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, identifying areas of strength and weakness, and making recommendations for support and accommodations.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in working with special needs students.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 combined with related training in working with special needs students and experience in an educational environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze situations, plan and implement strategies, and problem-solve in a fast-paced educational environment.
  • Knowledge of inclusive schooling principles and practices, with a commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Working Conditions:

The Relief Support Assistant will work in a variety of educational settings, including classrooms, schools, and community-based programs. The incumbent will be required to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on providing high-quality support and assistance to students with special needs.
