Job Title: Chiropodist
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chiropodist to join our team at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. As a Chiropodist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality foot care services to our patients, including diabetic foot wound management, prevention, education, and screening.
Key Responsibilities:
Diabetes Foot Wound Care
Assess and treat diabetic foot wounds, including debridement, dressing recommendations, antibiotic prescriptions, and pressure offloading.
Diabetes Wound Prevention
Provide continuous monitoring and care, including callus reduction, nail care or removal, footwear fitting and adjusting, and yearly assessments to determine foot pathology risk.
Diabetes Foot Health Education
Provide education to patients, staff, and the community on diabetes foot health and prevention of complications.
In-Patient Foot Health
Provide wound management and general care for compromised diabetes patients.
Orthotic Manufacturing and Dispensing
Provide biomechanical assessments, foot casting, orthotic fittings, adjustments, and manufacturing, as well as footwear fittings.
Administrative Duties
May include providing monthly statistics, professional practice meetings, RVH Wound Care Team meetings, and staff meetings.
Requirements:
- Registered in good standing with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario
- Three-Year Diploma of Chiropody (DCh)
- Undergraduate Degree in related discipline
- Member of the College of Chiropodists of Ontario (mandatory)
- Valid CPR Certification (an asset)
- Minimum 50 hours of continuing education over the past two years
- Post-Graduate courses, including Local Anesthesia and soft tissue surgery (an asset)
Experience:
- Minimum of two year's working knowledge/experience in soft-tissue surgery, wound care, foot biomechanics, ulcer debridement, offloading modalities, orthotic and footwear fittings
- Relevant experience as a diabetes educator
- Health care knowledge base developed through previous experience

- Self-motivated, and able to work autonomously
