About the Role

At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we are dedicated to providing compassionate and client-centered care to vulnerable individuals and families. As a non-profit organization, we have been helping people in crisis since 1928.

Our team is comprised of over 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide evidence-based, trauma-informed care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable populations.

Job Summary

This full-time role will provide counselling, parent-education, and support to families and children (birth - 12 years) referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). The successful candidate will work closely with families, the community, MCFD, and other professional services to provide linkage and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counselling to families and children
  • Develop and implement parent-education programs
  • Collaborate with community agencies and professionals to provide comprehensive support
  • Conduct assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Provide crisis intervention and support
Requirements
  • Masters degree in a social science (e.g. MSW/MA/MEd in counselling psychology) and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working with children ages birth - 12 years
  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and procedures
  • Understanding of integrated case management/wrap around services delivery
  • Working knowledge of different parenting strategies
  • Excellent crisis intervention skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
