About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Addictions Counselor to join our team at Good Shepherd Centres. As a key member of our dynamic team, you will play a vital role in enhancing the dignity and quality of life for adults struggling with problematic substance use.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide direct service to tenants, utilizing your expertise in motivational interviewing, Addictions Assessment, and case management to support their recovery journey. You will work collaboratively with clients to develop trust, establish goals, and implement effective strategies for achieving success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling and case management services to individuals experiencing or having experienced complex histories of substance use
  • Conduct Addictions Assessments using the ADAT tool, GAINS, and SS & A (Staged Screen and Assessment)
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, incorporating harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and therapeutic relationships
  • Collaborate with clients, families, and community resources to ensure comprehensive support
  • Participate in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, and protocols to minimize risk to clients, staff, and others
Requirements
  • University Degree in Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or equivalent, plus an Addictions Certificate from a recognized college
  • Two years' work-related experience, particularly with individuals experiencing problematic substance use and homelessness
  • Knowledge of the Social Service system and Community Resources for effective referrals
  • Proficient computer skills, including MS Outlook, Word, CRMS, DATIS, or equivalent software programs
  • CPR/First Aid certification and commitment to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice
