Job Summary

The Clinical Coding Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of patient health information in accordance with CIHI guidelines and standards. This includes coding and abstracting records, as well as maintaining data quality and ensuring timely submission of records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coding and abstracting patient records in accordance with CIHI guidelines and standards
  • Maintaining data quality and ensuring timely submission of records
  • Ensuring compliance with CIHI coding guidelines and standards
  • Working independently and prioritizing workload to meet quarterly deadlines
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure accurate and complete patient health information
Requirements
  • Graduate of a recognized Health Information Management Program
  • Certified with Canadian College of Health Information Management and active member in good standing
  • Experience in ICD-10/CCI coding system and CMG, RIW assignment methodology
  • Experience with coding and abstracting software, preferably Med2020
  • Minimum of one year experience in coding and abstracting all modules
  • Experience in an electronic health record environment as well as a paper-based system
  • Computer proficiency in the MS-Suite of Windows applications
  • Excellent communication skills and good judgment
