Position Overview:
The Laboratory Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the clinical laboratory, ensuring high standards of quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
Required:
- Minimum of six (6) years of recent clinical experience in a core laboratory environment, with progressive leadership roles in clinical technical operations.
- At least three (3) years of management experience, ideally within a hospital laboratory context.
- Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
- Certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Advanced expertise in Chemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine.
- Thorough understanding of IQMH and ACD regulatory standards, including CSA and OH&S.
- Proven commitment to maintaining clinical competence through ongoing education.
- Strong knowledge of quality management principles, continuous improvement, quality control, and assurance as they relate to laboratory operations.
- Demonstrated accountability, decision-making capabilities, and sound financial management.
- Critical thinking and effective decision-making skills.
- Leadership qualities, including the ability to coach, resolve conflicts, and manage change.
- Familiarity with laboratory and hospital information systems.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with a focus on team collaboration and diplomacy.
- Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, physicians, patients, and regulatory bodies.
- Proficient in maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Experience with various laboratory analyzers and Point of Care testing.
- Capacity to manage exposure to various laboratory conditions and high-pressure scenarios.
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Experience in a unionized environment.
- Willingness to participate in on-call responsibilities as assigned.
- Consistent record of satisfactory performance and attendance.

- Support for a culture of patient safety, demonstrating an understanding of how laboratory services contribute to overall patient care.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
- Graduate of a recognized Quality Management Program.
- Master's degree in a health or business-related field.
- Diploma in Department Management from the Canadian Healthcare Association or equivalent.
