Position Overview

The Lead Cost Estimator reports directly to the Estimating Manager and is accountable for all facets of the estimate, particularly for the more intricate and detailed tenders.

In your role as a Lead Cost Estimator at Graham, you will:

  1. Analyze proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to ascertain the scope of work and necessary components of the estimate.
  2. Deliver comprehensive conceptual and final estimating input on complex projects.
  3. Provide technical assistance to team members preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.
  4. Ensure all working documents and data are systematically maintained to support estimate figures.
  5. Monitor awarded contracts as necessary, including estimating and pricing additional work items, change orders, credits, and procuring materials.
  6. Oversee and coordinate estimating support staff on larger projects.
  7. Assist in organizing, coordinating, and training estimating personnel.
  8. Inform the Estimating Manager regarding cost and schedule variations, improved materials, or other factors impacting construction.
  9. Investigate Value Engineering opportunities for applicable projects or scenarios.
  10. Review market labor and equipment rates and provide recommendations accordingly.
  11. Conduct post-bid analyses on jobs that were bid but not awarded. Track bidding success rates and analyze fiscal period bid performance.
  12. Evaluate fee structures and adjust based on market conditions and previous experiences.
  13. May assist the Estimating Manager in coordinating overall corporate estimating functions, including systems development and staff training.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Engineering degree, certificate, or a combination of technical training and experience.
  • 10-15 years of estimating experience within the construction sector.
  • Experience working with a large General Contractor is essential.
  • Proficiency in estimating Water/Wastewater projects and contracts is required.
  • Strong background in concrete work related to Water/Wastewater.
  • Familiarity with InEight and Hard Dollar software is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior supervisory experience is mandatory.
