About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join our team as Vice President of Research and Development (R&D) at Distech Controls, a leading company in the building automation industry and a subsidiary of Acuity Brands.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Execute R&D Strategy: Drive the strategic direction of our R&D efforts to drive innovation and product development in the field of Building Automation Systems.
  2. Lead and Mentor R&D Teams: Lead and mentor a talented team of engineers, software developers, and researchers to drive excellence and innovation in R&D activities.
  3. Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Sales, and Marketing, to ensure alignment of R&D initiatives with business objectives and market needs.
  4. Oversee Product Development: Oversee the design, development, and testing of new BMS products, software applications, and technologies to meet customer requirements and market demands.
  5. Drive Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement and optimization of R&D processes, methodologies, and tools to enhance efficiency, quality, and speed to market.
  6. Foster a Culture of Innovation: Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence within the R&D organization.
  7. Stay Ahead of Industry Trends: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and market developments related to Building Automation Systems to identify opportunities for innovation and growth.
  8. Establish Strategic Partnerships: Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with industry organizations, technology vendors, and academic institutions to enhance R&D capabilities and access to resources.
  9. Ensure Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices in all R&D activities.
  10. Provide Regular Updates: Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership on the progress, milestones, and outcomes of R&D initiatives.
Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree (Master's or PhD) preferred.
  2. Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in R&D leadership roles within the building automation, controls, or related industry.
  3. Leadership Skills: Proven track record of successfully leading and managing R&D teams to deliver innovative products and solutions.
  4. Technical Expertise: Strong technical expertise in building automation systems, controls, software development, and related technologies.
  5. Business Acumen: Strong business acumen and ability to align R&D activities with overall business objectives.
  6. Communication Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  7. Strategic Thinking: Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term R&D strategies.
