Position Overview

The Space Planner plays a crucial role within the Facilities Management & Development team, reporting directly to the Director of Campus Planning. This position is dedicated to ensuring that the design and utilization of campus spaces align with the mission and objectives of Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Key Responsibilities
As a Space Planner, you will engage in planning, programming, and feasibility assessments to devise innovative solutions for the effective use of campus facilities. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborating with established standards and best practices to develop and refine long-term campus development strategies and design guidelines.
  • Supporting initiatives aimed at creating inclusive and accessible facilities, as well as contributing to the development of Smart Campuses that are adaptable to future requirements.
  • Integrating the institutional Indigenization strategy into campus planning and design efforts.
  • Assisting in the formulation of policies, guidelines, and standards that govern campus space usage.
  • Enhancing campus navigation through effective wayfinding, signage, and markers.
  • Working alongside project teams during the planning and design phases of both capital and maintenance projects.
  • Providing technical expertise in space planning to maximize the functionality of Saskatchewan Polytechnic facilities, including producing in-house design drawings using AutoCAD or Revit.
Property and Space Management
Your role will also encompass:
  • Evaluating space and furniture requests, creating preliminary design options, and delivering in-house design drawings.
  • Reviewing master plans, functional programs, and architectural designs for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Establishing and maintaining furniture standards, preparing layouts, finish selections, and specifications for procurement.
  • Collaborating on the development of access control guidelines and procedures.
  • Managing user requirements for wayfinding, signage, and campus markers.
  • Maintaining comprehensive archives of drawings, maintenance manuals, and design catalogs.
Relationship Management
The Space Planner will also be responsible for:
  • Fostering effective collaboration with all stakeholders involved in campus planning initiatives.
  • Engaging with external partners, including government and industry representatives, to ensure optimal collaboration.
  • Upholding a high standard of client service and stewardship within Facilities Management & Development.
  • Ensuring that the operations and reputation of Saskatchewan Polytechnic are accurately represented in all communications.
  • Meeting regulatory reporting requirements with thorough documentation.
  • Leading by example through trustworthiness, quality work, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior staff, including reviewing their work.
Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
  • A diploma in Architectural Technology or a comparable combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of one to three years of experience in space planning.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with relevant professional organizations.
  • Proficiency in drafting software (AutoCAD and/or Revit), graphic software, and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with diverse groups.
  • Adeptness in both team-oriented and independent work environments.
