Position: Manufacturing Engineering Expert - Electrical/Mechanical

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Expert - Electrical/Mechanical to join our team. The Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions division is engaged in the design, production, development, testing, and servicing of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tools utilized globally. We pioneered the automated systems that facilitate continuous on-power refueling of CANDU reactors.

JOB OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineering Expert will oversee the estimation and execution of a diverse array of manufacturing projects, ranging from custom-engineered components to advanced nuclear equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates for custom-engineered manufacturing projects, including electro-mechanical automation, tooling, welded fabrications, machining, field services, and testing.
  • Contribute manufacturing insights to the design process, engaging in manufacturability assessments to pinpoint cost or schedule enhancements during product design.
  • Organize and direct projects through the manufacturing phases, encompassing machining, welding, assembly, and testing.
  • Generate Manufacturing Bills of Material from engineering BOMs using JD Edwards MRP system. Conduct make vs buy assessments and procure necessary parts and materials for in-house production.
  • Draft operational instructions (shop travelers) for in-house tasks, including manufacturing sketches, weld maps, assembly/test specifications, etc. Identify, design, and acquire fixtures and tooling as required.
  • Manage design modifications and ensure design configuration is maintained throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Lead and engage in project meetings regarding schedules and budgets, including discussions with clients.
  • Prepare project schedule inputs, including task planning to optimize lead times.
  • Address production challenges alongside design and manufacturing teams, recommending solutions for non-conformances.
  • Lead or participate in teams executing work at client locations.
  • Promote continuous improvement within manufacturing operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in manufacturing instrumentation and control equipment, PLC systems, cable assemblies, panels, and industrial automation.
  • Proficient knowledge of machining (both conventional and CNC/CAM), fitting/welding, assembly, and materials such as stainless steels, Al-bronze, nickel alloys, and zirconium.
  • Familiarity with metrology, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T), and blueprint interpretation.
  • High proficiency in data analysis and management, including spreadsheet tools and MRP systems.
  • Proven ability in project planning and execution, including the development of processes and procedures for process enhancements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

  • Basic understanding of common non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques.
  • Experience in technical writing, including procedures, customer proposals, and technical reports.
  • Background in cost estimation for multi-disciplinary equipment and facility projects.
  • Familiarity with ASME Code regulations regarding material identification and traceability, manufacturing processes, and testing.
  • Experience with Primavera (P6) project scheduling software.
  • Experience in the nuclear sector is advantageous but not mandatory.
