Family Medicine Specialist

Island Health is seeking a Family Medicine Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team at the Cowichan Maternity Clinic (CMC).
The CMC is a Primary Care OB clinic located in the Cowichan District Hospital, adjacent to the OB ward. Our team of eight highly skilled Family Physicians and one Midwife/Lactation Consultant provides OB care to women in the Cowichan Region.
We are looking for a physician who is interested in Indigenous health, as approximately 30% of our maternity patients are Indigenous. Our community would be a great fit for a physician who wants to make a difference in the lives of Indigenous women.
As a Family Medicine Specialist at the CMC, you will have the opportunity to work in a collegial and high-functioning team, providing antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care to women up to six weeks postpartum. Our caseload is approximately deliveries per year, shared by the group.
We offer a shared on-call and clinic model, with the capability to do home visits in the first week postpartum. Our midwife/LC colleague also works in clinic and will be joining our on-call roster in the summer of.
Our team is well-supported by local OB/Gyn, Pediatricians, and Anesthetists. We also have a strong focus on undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, with four third-year Integrated Clerkship (ICC) students per year, as well as Indigenous Family Medicine residents.
Requirements include current NRP and Fetal Health Surveillance certification, with ALARM course or equivalent recommended.
