Senior Data Scientist

Amazon Canada Fulfillment Services, ULC is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Data Scientist specializing in UTR Optimization to join our growing team.
As part of the North America Sort Centers (NASC) Engineering Data, Product and Simulation Team, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of our middle-mile network.
The NASC network is vital to Amazon's success, connecting Fulfillment Centers with the Last Mile delivery system. Your work directly impacts customer experience by ensuring smooth and efficient flow of goods through our sort centers.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement innovative solutions using simulation techniques to address complex business challenges within the NASC network.
- Leverage advanced analytical methods and statistical concepts to extract valuable insights from massive datasets.
- Develop intuitive simulations and data visualizations to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with process design engineers, business intelligence engineers, and technical product managers to gather relevant data and build robust simulation models.
- Present key results and recommendations to business leaders, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Define and champion best practices for simulation within the team, establishing a framework for excellence.
Basic Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD degree in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field with limited experience, OR a Bachelor's degree with three years of experience as a Data Scientist.
- Proven expertise in statistical analysis, data modeling, optimization techniques, regression modeling, forecasting, time series analysis, data mining, financial analysis, and demand modeling.
- Experience applying various machine learning algorithms and understanding the factors influencing their performance.
- Proficiency with statistical software packages such as R, Weka, SAS, or SPSS.
- Ability to create compelling visualizations using Tableau or similar web-based tools.
- SQL scripting experience for analysis and reporting (Redshift, SQL, MySQL).
- Experience utilizing one or more programming languages (Python, R, Java, C++, MATLAB).
- Proven ability to process, filter, and present large datasets (100K to Millions of rows).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a Machine Learning, Data Scientist, or Optimization Engineer role within a large technology company.
- Familiarity with Amazon's fulfillment/sortation network processes.
- Ability to develop experimental and analytical plans for data modeling processes, utilizing strong baselines and accurately determining cause-and-effect relationships.
- Experience in creating data-driven visualizations to depict end-to-end systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The role requires effective collaboration with colleagues from computer science, operations research, and business backgrounds.
