Waterworks Drafter

The City of Vancouver is seeking a skilled Waterworks Drafter to support the delivery of the Waterworks capital program. The successful candidate will prepare technical drawings and detailed layouts for proposed water mains, hydrant relocations, and various minor replacements and extensions of the water system.

• Creates water main design construction drawings using GIS/AutoCAD/TopoBase environment
• Updates GIS as-built information
• Researches and provides technical and other information regarding water infrastructure for the public, city staff and private companies
• Undertakes quality control processes related to existing GIS data
• Makes recommendations to improve branch processes and information access needs
• Conducts site visits as required
• Coordinates with the survey team to confirm site information, order test holes, and acquire crossing permits from outside utilities and agencies
• Reviews designs submitted by other internal branches and external utilities
• Provides clerical support such as maintaining spreadsheets and databases
• Communicates and corresponds with the public, private companies, outside agencies and other City branches

• Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by technical courses related to the work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Experience preparing AutoCAD construction drawings
• Experience in layout and construction of pressurized pipe systems within an urban context

The successful candidate will work in a team environment with minimal supervision. The position requires the ability to work efficiently in a multi-task environment and prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines.
