Job Title: Pedagogical Counsellor

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pedagogical Counsellor to join our team at John Abbott College. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating academic and administrative structures for the Iyeskuiwiiu (IK) and Cree Nursing (CN) Springboard to a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DSC) programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a project liaison between John Abbott College and the Cree School Board (CSB) Director, Project Manager, and project management team.
  • Map out a clear project timeline, including milestones, deliverables, and budget, reporting back to both the Cree Partners and John Abbott College.
  • Coordinate with relevant College departments to set up internal structures for the delivery of the Springboard to a DCS programs.
  • Work with the Director of Continuing Education to explore financing options for small class sizes and submit necessary application documentation.
  • Search for JAC instructors with an academic background in Cree or First Nation culture for course development.
  • Coordinate joint course development between instructors and CSB experts in Cree culture to ensure alignment with Cree cultural content and pedagogical concepts.
  • Coordinate job postings and participate in the hiring of John Abbott College instructors to teach in the programs.
  • Oversee and update budgets related to the project, including the timely administration of invoices.
  • Set up structures for online and in-person course delivery, including the organization of resource persons available to students.
  • Develop semester plans and teaching schedules jointly with the CSB Project Manager.
  • Provide input and make recommendations regarding the communication strategy to promote the Springboards to a DCS program within the Eeyou Istchee community.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of specialization, preferably in Education or Guidance Counselling, with special consideration given to candidates who have knowledge of the Cree culture or First Nations issues.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience working with First Nations students, preferably Cree students, in a post-secondary environment.
  • Solid understanding of the reality of First Nations students in a post-secondary setting.
  • Project coordination background, including budget development, reporting, follow-up, setting deliverables, project milestones, and timelines.
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to create an environment of trust, consideration, and ongoing adaptation.
  • Familiarity with the Cégep system and internal policies and processes, an asset.
  • High degree of autonomy and self-directed work, motivation, flexibility, and creativity.
  • Highly motivated in building an educational pathway benefiting the Cree nation of Eeyou Istchee.
  • English, spoken and written; French, spoken and written, an asset.
