Position Overview:
This role involves the evaluation and recommendation of land use and development projects concerning potential hazards such as flooding, erosion, and bank instability. Under the guidance of the Senior Flood Protection Planning Officer, the incumbent will assess private land subdivisions, crown land proposals, development plans, and zoning regulations while providing critical flood design information to the public, consultants, and governmental agencies.

Employment Conditions:
The successful candidate must meet the following conditions:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Willingness to travel across the province as necessary.
  • Physical capability to conduct field investigations and fulfill assigned responsibilities.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Availability to work extended hours when required.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • A Bachelor's degree specializing in geography, land use planning, or resource management, or a relevant College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS software and geospatial databases.
  • Experience in land use planning processes.
  • Strong written communication skills, capable of producing both technical and non-technical documents.
  • Experience with survey and elevation data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective interaction with various stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to meet strict deadlines.
  • Analytical, research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal communication skills for courteous engagement with internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, and floodplain management.
  • Capability to supervise and lead staff.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with Provincial Land Use and Water Policies related to development in flood-prone areas.
  • Understanding of relevant by-laws and development plans.
