Position Overview: Game Design Team Lead

WB Games Montréal, a part of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, is seeking a Game Design Team Lead to oversee the game design team’s production processes and ensure timely task completion.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Game Design Team Lead, you will play a crucial role in managing the workflow and guiding the team through the game development lifecycle. Your expertise will be vital in mentoring team members and fostering a collaborative environment.

  • Develop, prioritize, and monitor tasks to ensure the team meets its objectives.
  • Act as the representative for the game design team in interdepartmental meetings.
  • Facilitate and lead team discussions to enhance communication and project alignment.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings to assess and support individual team member progress.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of game narratives, mechanics, and design documentation to effectively lead the team.
  • Proactively identify and resolve potential issues, providing solutions to upper management and production teams.
  • Offer technical or artistic guidance to team mentors as required.
  • Engage in performance assessments in collaboration with senior management and production.
  • Coordinate the resolution of bugs related to the team's deliverables.
  • Ensure a seamless onboarding process for new team members.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in the gaming industry, with at least 2 years in a design capacity.
  • Experience on at least 2 console or PC titles in a design, coordination, or leadership role.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; proficiency in English is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce and maintain clear and effective documentation.
  • Experience in designing game systems for open-world environments.
  • Background in developing gameplay features for action-oriented games.
  • Strong technical knowledge, particularly in understanding how design interacts with coding and animation limitations.
  • Experience in systemic game design, especially in scenarios where multiple game systems or components interact.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as JIRA and Perforce.
  • Experience with the Unreal game engine is advantageous.
