About the Role

The University of Waterloo is seeking a highly skilled Information Technology Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our technical support and development team, you will be responsible for providing expert-level technical support and guidance to our faculty, staff, and students.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Technical Support
  • Provide timely and effective technical support to clients via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to computer hardware, software, and networking.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation to support clients and internal stakeholders.
Systems and Applications Management
  • Manage and maintain critical systems and applications, including servers, desktops, and laboratory systems.
  • Specify, test, and deploy systems and application software on a variety of platforms.
  • Manage large and complex computing environments, including network services and infrastructure.
Services Development
  • Identify, propose, and develop applications and technological solutions to support the University's academic and research missions.
  • Manage technical projects using best practices to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Recommend enhancements and improvements to systems and processes.
Requirements
  1. A university degree in a computing discipline, together with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Advanced Linux knowledge, including terminal commands, SSH, and Docker.
  3. Advanced web development and scripting skills, including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Python, and Bash.
  4. Firm knowledge of computer hardware.
  5. Ability to work effectively with clients and internal stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
