Your future role on our team:

BBA is looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineering Specialist for mineral processing facilities to support our ongoing expansion in Central Canada. The selected candidate will be instrumental in all stages of engineering projects, from preliminary studies to field execution, with an emphasis on detailed engineering. As a senior member of the mechanical engineering division, you will be accountable for ensuring technical excellence, cultivating new business opportunities, and promoting team growth.

With us, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Conduct high-level engineering on significant mechanical systems, including crushing and grinding circuits, flotation systems, leaching processes, dewatering, heavy machinery, conveyors, and pumping systems.
  • Develop mechanical scopes of work, financial estimates, and proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with budgets, timelines, estimates, and established protocols.
  • Lead mechanical components in conceptual design studies, pre-feasibility assessments, feasibility analyses, and detailed engineering.
  • Oversee or perform design calculations and ensure compliance with guidelines as well as legal and regulatory standards.
  • Assign and evaluate the work of junior engineers, technicians, and drafters involved in projects, assessing technical scope.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients to understand their requirements.
  • Present technical data, concepts, or study findings.
  • Verify and prepare documentation for tenders, specifications, and other technical materials.
  • Occasionally supervise contractors on-site.
  • Be a vital team member for both small and large brownfield/greenfield mining initiatives.
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, condition evaluations, commissioning, and testing.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate engineers, actively sharing knowledge and supporting skill enhancement within the team.

Overview of qualifications and job requirements:

  • Proven experience with strong technical skills as a Mechanical Engineer on mineral processing plant projects.
  • Experience in base and precious metals is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret process flow diagrams (PFDs) and design criteria from process engineering, oversee plant layouts, mechanical equipment selection, technical bid evaluations, and pump sizing.
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 20+ years of relevant engineering experience in the mining industry, with a preference for the last 10+ years in consulting.
  • Must be a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Availability for site work (3-10 days at a time).
  • Site experience is considered a strong asset.
