Position Overview

AECOM is actively seeking a Senior Construction Manager to oversee a significant, multi-faceted construction initiative. This role requires full-time presence at the construction site during standard operational hours, with potential for evening and weekend commitments. The chosen candidate will engage daily with both the client and the contractor's on-site personnel, reporting directly to the Project Director.


Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Direct a team comprising resident engineers, field engineers, site inspectors, and visiting discipline engineers and architects. Serve as the main liaison among stakeholders, providing strategic insights and guidance to the field team.
  • Organizational Skills: Cultivate a culture of structured work execution. Utilize existing documentation and communication tools to manage construction phase documentation effectively.
  • Construction Support: Collaborate closely with the project team to navigate complex technical, financial, and contractual challenges. Oversee the review process for technical submissions and RFIs, and develop KPIs to monitor construction performance.
  • Field Coordination: Align field staff efforts with office-based teams, addressing ongoing and emerging site issues. Ensure effective communication and quality in field reports.
  • Quality Management: Partner with the project Quality Manager to enforce quality management standards and reporting. Develop KPIs to track inspection quality and non-conformances.
  • Cost and Change Oversight: Monitor contract progress and recommend contractor payments. Manage the review process for change requests and anticipate potential issues.
  • Schedule Coordination: Collaborate with contractors and the scheduling team to review and manage construction schedules.
  • Safety Leadership: Foster a safety-oriented culture within the project team, ensuring compliance with safety programs.
  • Effective Communication: Oversee all field communications and coordinate with engineering teams to ensure timely resolution of project issues.
  • Risk Management: Provide ongoing insights to the Project Director regarding potential risks related to quality, schedule, and cost.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field, coupled with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in managing large-scale capital projects.
  • Proven experience in large industrial design and construction projects.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Proficient in collaboration within multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Experience in construction contract administration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Metro Vancouver design, construction, or operations.
  • Background in wastewater design and construction projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng, PE, or CEng) eligible for registration with EGBC in Canada.
