The College of New Caledonia (CNC) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Casual Natural Resources and Forestry Technology Lab Technician to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our student laboratories.
Key Responsibilities- Preparation and Maintenance: Prepare and setup materials and equipment in advance of scheduled labs, ensuring all necessary safety protocols are in place.
- Lab Support: Setup, cleanup, takedown, and replenish lab supplies and equipment, including student workstations, as per schedules and requirements.
- WHMIS/GHS Compliance: Monitor and maintain compliance with WHMIS/GHS regulations, including labeling of secondary containers.
- Supply Management: Aid in the ordering, receipt, preparation, maintenance, inventory, and storage of supplies, specimens, and equipment.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support in the development of laboratory procedures and assist with equipment sign out/in.
- Transportation and Logistics: Facilitate transportation needs to field sites, as required.
- Communication and Teamwork: Liaise with internal departments and external agencies, as needed, and promote a positive work atmosphere.
- Education: Bachelor's degree (or higher) specializing in Natural Resources or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: 1 year or more of previous experience in providing support in a student laboratory setting.
- Certifications: Minimum Level 2 occupational first aid with transportation endorsement and a Class 2 or higher driver's license.
- Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and unsupervised.
This is a part-time, casual position that requires the ability to work effectively and safely in a potentially hazardous work environment. The successful candidate will be required to complete demands of the job, including physical activities.
