Job Summary

The Dietary Aide is a vital member of our team at Simcoe County, responsible for providing exceptional service to our residents and clients. As a Dietary Aide, you will be part of a dynamic team that delivers high-quality food services and maintains a clean and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals to residents and clients in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Communicate effectively with the Dietary Supervisor and Cooks to ensure smooth production and minimize waste.
  • Follow therapeutic diets, meal plans, and serving sizes as directed by the Registered Dietitian and/or Dietary Supervisor.
  • Set tables and trays, and ensure menus are available and current.
  • Clean and organize dining rooms and food service/kitchen areas, adhering to infection control procedures.
  • Store food items upon delivery and replace pantry supplies as necessary.
  • Wash and clean dishes and cookware, and participate in the Live to Eat program.
  • Practice safe food handling procedures, proper hand hygiene, and infection control procedures.
  • Assist with basic food preparation, and participate in the orientation of new staff as required.
  • Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, committee meetings, and workshops as directed by the Dietary Supervisor.
  • Be knowledgeable of your specific responsibilities under the LTC Act and other applicable legislation, as well as those of staff in the department.
  • Act as a member of the inter-disciplinary team within the Home, and effectively utilize all electronic systems provided.
  • Participate in committees as required, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in and demonstrate an understanding of Resident Safety principles and practices into all day-to-day activities, and follow safe work practices and procedures.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act, and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic food preparation and handling principles obtained through the enrollment or completion of a Food Service Worker training program at an established college as listed in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or a registered private career college in Ontario.
  • Successful completion of the Food Handler/Proton Training Program.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets an asset.
  • Basic ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate with residents and staff.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing, as per Public Health requirements.
  • Proof of annual CPR recertification.
  • A minimum of six (6) months experience in a similar or related position.

Working Conditions

  • This position is located in a long-term care facility, exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
  • Work schedule to be determined; shifts may include days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
