About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Solutions Architect to join our team at Scotiabank. As a key member of our Global Technology and Enterprise Platform organization, you will be responsible for designing and implementing reliable, scalable, and cost-effective infrastructure solutions for our global business areas.

Reporting to the Director, Solutions Engineering, you will work closely with application owners and leadership teams to provide technical insights and drive forward our Public Cloud Acceleration strategy. You will also be responsible for establishing design patterns for Public Cloud migration and providing mentorship to the infrastructure and application development teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement infrastructure solutions leveraging public cloud infrastructure to achieve agility, efficiency, and higher degree of security in deploying business applications.
  • Work with application engineering teams to design and implement highly available and scalable solutions leveraging IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and leverage them effectively to meet business needs.
  • Harvest innovations from client solutions into design patterns for future use.
  • Foster technical vitality across the Solutions Engineering team by ensuring all staff develop comprehensive plans to increase their knowledge and skill level in public cloud IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS offerings.
  • Solve complex hybrid cloud integration challenges.
Requirements
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written/presentation) skills to confidently convey ideas and recommendations on solutions to both business and technical audiences.
  • At least 8+ years of technical working experience in working closely with application teams to provide comprehensive solutions across a broad infrastructure service area.
  • At least 4+ years of hands-on technical working experience in architecting and deploying full-stack applications in public cloud (GCP and Azure preferred).
  • At least 4+ years of hands-on technical working experience in the end-to-end design/planning/implementation of the migration of applications from an internal on-prem data center to the public cloud.
  • At least 2+ years of hands-on technical working experience with Kubernetes (k8s), CI/CD pipeline, and the infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) toolset.
  • Ability to influence staff and senior management and promote a high level of understanding and acceptance of the risks, issues, and practices of outsourcing and cloud-based services.
  • Advanced technical understanding of emerging technologies, operational best practices, development methodologies, and technical architecture.
  • Technical knowledge of data analytics platforms and Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) capabilities is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or Engineering or in a relevant field.
  • An asset to have completed a Public Cloud Architect certification (GCP and/or Azure and/or AWS) in good standing.
