The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is inviting applications for the following role:
Casual Early Childhood Educator (Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Programs)
Locations: Woodroffe HS and/or Queen Elizabeth PS
Compensation: $21.02/hour + 4% Vacation Pay
Work Schedule: The work hours will vary through flexible shift rotations including 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, and 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, from Monday to Friday. This position is exempt from union regulations and is part of a program that operates year-round.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Early Learning Manager, the Early Childhood Educator is responsible for delivering high-quality, play-based educational experiences that foster cognitive, emotional, and social growth in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA) and the policies set forth by the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. The educator will apply a solid understanding of 'How Does Learning Happen', Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years, along with the College of ECEs Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice in daily activities. Additionally, the Early Childhood Educator ensures a safe and nurturing environment for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
A comprehensive understanding of early childhood development and its practical application in infant, toddler, and preschool settings is crucial. The ideal candidate must exhibit strong interpersonal and communication abilities to effectively interact with parents and community organizations, showing sensitivity to the diverse needs of children in a multicultural context. Creativity and initiative are essential, along with the capacity to adapt to evolving demands and work efficiently with minimal oversight in a collaborative environment.
These competencies are typically gained through the completion of a two-year community college program in Early Childhood Education or an equivalent qualification. Registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is mandatory, alongside a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience. Valid First Aid certification/CPR is also required. Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
