About the Role:

The After Care Teacher, under the direction and guidance of the After Care Teacher Lead, plays a vital role in administering and facilitating the Junior School After Care Program. This program provides after-school care for students in JK-Grade 6, Monday to Friday from dismissal until 6:00 pm. The program offers a variety of indoor and outdoor activities consistent with a play-based and Reggio-inspired approach within a caring and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the After Care Teacher Lead to help organize and plan the daily After Care Program, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for students.
  • Supports in planning activities for students, including homework completion for older students, to promote academic growth and development.
  • Prepares materials for student activities that are engaging, educational, and aligned with the school's curriculum.
  • Creates outdoor activities that include a balance of free play and structured games, promoting physical activity and socialization.
  • Supervises students on the playground and indoors, ensuring their safety and well-being in all weather conditions.
  • Liaises with other teachers and parents to ensure the needs of students are met, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Communicates with parents on a daily basis during pick-up time, providing updates on their child's activities and progress.
  • Administers and supervises daily snack with the students, adhering to health and safety protocols, including student food allergies.
  • Tracks attendance of students, maintaining accurate records and reporting any concerns to the After Care Teacher Lead.

Requirements:

  • Member of the Ontario College of Teachers with a related teaching degree preferred.
  • Willingness and/or availability to supply teach during the day when needed in the Junior School.
  • Experience working with students 4 to 12 years of age in a school, camp, or childcare setting.
  • Knowledge of effective programs, sports, and games that enhance the learning of girls.
  • Current in First Aid/CPR preferred or willing to obtain.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
