Junior Hydrogeologist or Engineer – Focus on Remediation and Reclamation

Position Overview:
We are looking for a motivated early-career hydrogeologist or engineer to join our team at Barr Engineering Co. This role will involve engaging in various challenging projects that focus on the investigation and remediation of contaminated groundwater, management of mine tailings, planning and development, as well as long-term closure strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively within a project team. Responsibilities will include:

  1. Collecting air, soil, surface water, sediment, and groundwater samples for field screening and laboratory analysis.
  2. Assisting with environmental site assessments and developing environmental compliance documentation.
  3. Analyzing environmental data and performing oversight activities during construction.
  4. Participating in the siting of industrial groundwater production wells and deep injection wells, including evaluating aquifer performance and injection capabilities.
  5. Assisting in the development of conceptual site models and conducting aquifer tests, along with preparing work plans and reports.

The primary clientele for this position will be in the mining sector, with additional opportunities in oil and gas, power, and public sectors.

Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or a related field.
  2. A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in hydrogeologic evaluations and/or remediation of contaminated groundwater.
  3. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Strong technical and analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and attention to detail.
  5. A flexible working style with the capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  6. Willingness to travel and adjust personal schedules as necessary to meet project demands.
  7. Legal authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship.
  8. Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will possess:

  1. 5 or more years of relevant experience in the responsibilities outlined above.
  2. A Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with a focus on hydrogeology.
  3. Expertise in managing mine tailings areas and developing complex conceptual site models.
  4. Experience in hydrogeologic field investigations, including aquifer testing and analysis using software tools.
  5. Familiarity with groundwater modeling software and the necessary data inputs for numerical modeling.
  6. Current registration as a Professional Geoscientist or Professional Engineer in Alberta or Saskatchewan.
  7. Completion of safety training relevant to mining operations.
  8. Knowledge of local environmental regulations and compliance requirements.

This position may offer a hybrid or remote work arrangement, allowing for flexibility in work location. Please note that some job assignments may involve working in challenging environments typical of construction sites and may require adherence to safety protocols.
