About the Research Team

The research team led by Dr. Affar is focused on understanding the mechanisms of cellular signaling through ubiquitination and its dysregulation in cancer. Ubiquitination is a reversible process mediated by deubiquitinases (enzymes that specifically remove ubiquitin from target proteins). The goal is to characterize the biological functions and mechanisms of action of deubiquitinases involved in transcription and DNA repair, two processes whose dysregulation plays a fundamental role in cancer development. Currently, the team is particularly working on the tumor suppressor gene BAP1, a gene frequently mutated in certain types of cancers. The laboratory uses cutting-edge biochemical, molecular biology, and cell culture approaches to characterize the functions of deubiquitinases.

About the Research Position

The research team of Dr. El Bachir Affar is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers. Candidates must have a PhD in molecular biology or biochemistry or a related field, organizational skills, and a strong interest in cellular signaling and molecular oncology.
