About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Underwriting Trainee to join our team at Liberty Mutual Canada. As an Underwriting Trainee, you will play a critical role in analyzing business risks and developing strong relationships with internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete a 6-month Underwriting Training Program, which includes on-the-job training, classroom instruction, self-study, case studies, rating, and underwriting activities.
  • Develop judgment to accept, reject, or modify new/renewal business for various lines of business, ensuring a profitable book of business.
  • Price business in a timely manner according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines.
  • Market products to achieve company growth and profitability targets.
  • Develop on-going relationships with internal and external customers, monitor profitability and quality of submissions, and be aware of underwriting and/or product changes.
  • Review and develop a strong knowledge of policy coverages, broker relationships, underwriting and team guidelines, processes, and procedures, and business strategy/organization.
Requirements
  • 0-2 years of work experience (not necessarily in insurance).
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in business, mathematics, economics, or finance.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner with an appropriate level of detail and professionalism.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Ability to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Initiative driven and self-starter.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated organization skills and abilities.
  • Willingness to complete professional designation(s) and continued insurance education.
