The University of Toronto is seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Officer to join its Budget, Planning and Finance team. As a key member of the team, you will provide financial expertise and support to the university community.

About the Role
  • Oversee the financial management of budgets, including strategic planning, analysis, and forecasting.
  • Advise staff on accounting practices and university financial policies and procedures.
  • Interpret and apply policies and procedures when making independent decisions.
  • Forecast and plan financial activities, incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries.
  • Apply the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency, and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making.
  • Identify and analyze data discrepancies and take necessary actions to correct errors.
  • Liaise with internal contacts to resolve accounting, payroll, and/or HRIS processing issues.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years relevant financial budget and accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Experience dealing with various levels in the organization.
  • Strong ability to identify critical issues and problem-solve independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Advanced computer skills: Microsoft Office: Excel (Advanced formula & functions, pivot tables), Word, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • SAP experience an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze financial information (budget and actual).
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, and initiative.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to act with discretion when handling confidential information.
