Your Opportunity:
The Personal Care Assistant plays a vital role in delivering individualized care and support to clients within a community environment. Responsibilities are assigned based on a structured care plan, developed in collaboration with the client, their family, and the interdisciplinary team. This position operates under the supervision of a licensed health professional and may involve executing specific Restricted Activities when appropriate. Accurate documentation of relevant information and care provided is essential, along with participation in necessary in-service training.
Position Overview:
As a Community Support Worker, you will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, offering personal assistance that includes aiding with daily living activities and support services for patients (clients, residents) who need temporary help or ongoing assistance, in line with the care plan and facility guidelines. In this role, you will engage closely with patients, families, and caregivers throughout the care continuum in home, community, or healthcare settings, assisting nursing staff in delivering routine care to address patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreational, and safety needs. You will also facilitate organized activities or programs and monitor and report on a patient's emotional state, health, and overall wellbeing. Under the guidance of a regulated health professional, you will contribute to maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors while ensuring effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals.
Required Qualifications:Completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of employment and active registration on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory is mandatory. Nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited Alberta nursing program who have completed at least 100 hours of practicum, and are either in their first year of practical nursing or second year of a baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program, will also be considered. Proof of qualifications must be provided.
Additional Required Qualifications:A Health Care Aide Certificate from an accredited college or program is required. Equivalent experience or education may be taken into account. BLS-HCP and/or first aid training is necessary. The ability to implement Health and Safety principles in client care delivery within the community, work effectively and collaboratively with others, and prioritize tasks by organizing and scheduling work-related activities is crucial. A valid full driver's license (non-GDL) and a reliable vehicle for travel are required. Candidates must be able to meet the physical demands of the role. Applications should include relevant skills and abilities for the position, as selection is based on the information provided.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience in the healthcare sector and working with elderly or chronically ill individuals is advantageous. Training in Medication Assistance is preferred. Proficiency with PCs, the Internet, and Microsoft applications is considered an asset.
