The Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency Centre (CARE Centre) is seeking a full-time ER Veterinary Technician Assistant to become part of our committed and vibrant pet healthcare team. The CARE Centre operates as a 24-hour emergency and referral specialty hospital, dedicated to delivering top-tier emergency and referral care to both pet owners and the veterinary community.
The primary responsibility of the ER Veterinary Technician Assistant is to support the Animal Health Technologists (AHTs) and Veterinarians with their daily activities and patient care. This role involves being the hands-on caregivers for our hospitalized patients, which includes feeding, walking, and maintaining the cleanliness of both the patients and their living spaces to ensure a comfortable stay. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, self-driven, sociable, and possess strong organizational abilities. Given the fast-paced nature of the CARE Centre, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is crucial. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to excel in our collaborative environment and to provide the exceptional client experience that the CARE Centre is renowned for. Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing proper restraint techniques while assisting AHTs and veterinarians in patient assessment and treatment
- Aiding veterinarians and AHTs during sample collection, radiography, and ultrasound procedures
- Offering physical and emotional support to patients
- Assisting in maintaining the cleanliness of hospital treatment areas
- Performing additional duties as required for the upkeep of the ICU and hospital
Schedule: Candidates must be prepared to work 40 hours per week on 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and overnight shifts, to meet the needs of the Centre's 24-hour operations.
