Tunnel Manager Job Description

STRABAG AG - Subdivision IP is seeking a highly skilled Tunnel Manager to oversee the construction of tunnels using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of TBMs, coordinating with project stakeholders, and leading a team of tunneling professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and coordinate TBM activities, analyzing data to optimize production rates.
  • Manage logistics, including mucking areas, key materials, segments, and grout plants.
  • Procure equipment and materials in a timely manner, maximizing TBM production.
  • Ensure quality control and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Prepare technical reports and collaborate with clients and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement technical contractual agreements and invoicing systems.
  • Assess ground conditions and make critical decisions to ensure optimized support.
  • Supervise TBM operators, logistic, mucking, and technical office managers.
  • Work closely with the workshop manager, geotechnical consultant, and commercial team.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and ensure TBM operators are adequately trained.
  • Supervise survey and TBM guidance operations, maintaining a stable environment.
  • Lead and train project subgroups, including subgroup superintendents, foremen, and equipment operators.
  • Coordinate with the tunnel construction lead and management team to ensure project stays on cost and schedule.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (10 years) in managing TBM tunnel construction projects, preferably involving TBMs.
  • At least 3 completed tunneling projects over CAD$100 million.
  • Experience working in Canada and on North American tunneling projects is an advantage.
