Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Government of Alberta Full time

Position Overview

The Government of Alberta is dedicated to overseeing a substantial number of identified geohazard locations that impact the safety and functionality of the provincial roadway system. This role, reporting directly to the Director of Geotechnical and Utilities Engineering, is pivotal in orchestrating and executing the provincial Geohazard Risk Management Program (GRMP). The position is instrumental in evolving this program into a comprehensive geotechnical asset management initiative and steering the risk-based prioritization of potential repair sites through the Department's Slide Program under Capital Maintenance and Renewal (CMR).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the formulation, execution, assessment, and continuous enhancement of the Geohazard Risk Management Program, guiding its evolution towards a geotechnical asset management framework.
  • Engage proactively with engineering consultants and regional construction teams to ensure efficient and timely execution of geohazard repairs.
  • Deliver expert technical evaluations and guidance on intricate geotechnical design and construction challenges for highway, bridge, and geohazard projects, including the assessment of geotechnical engineering analyses, detailed designs, and contract documentation.
  • Provide strategic advice for the ongoing refinement and upkeep of Department geotechnical standards and protocols.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions, industry specialists, and other jurisdictions on innovative geotechnical research topics and best practices.
  • Oversee the documentation and dissemination of geotechnical knowledge to clients and Department personnel.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside various stakeholders, including asset management professionals, engineering consultants, contractors, and academic researchers, to explore leading asset management methodologies, investigate new technologies, and drive continuous improvements in transportation asset management and geohazard risk management.
