Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Johnson Controls. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge of engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical design support to the engineering department with a focus on mechanical design engineering.
  • Design product assembly lines with production coordinators and ensure all associated administrative work is addressed in advance of construction kick-off.
  • Be involved in various aspects of the business, including support for estimating, business development, and sales, production improvements, and marketing.
  • Develop new and innovative product lines and refine existing products.
  • Design, develop, and test AHU and MDC (SRM & PRM) products, including applied mechanical design, psychrometrics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.
  • Review, evaluate, and improve upon engineering schematics and specifications prepared by clients or consultants, ensuring designs are safe, efficient, effective, and practical.
  • Interact with production, perform periodic inspections of units under construction, and conduct final inspections and recommend acceptance, improvements, or rejection of completed designs and manufactured units.
  • Create and implement standard specification languages and procedures for mechanical engineering projects.
  • Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data.
  • Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure project success.
  • Evaluate various mechanical components for performance, cost, and lead times.
  • Determine project cost estimates.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
Requirements
  • Mechanical Engineering degree (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.).
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation.
  • Five or more years of related experience.
  • 3+ years of related experience in HVAC design, including knowledge in equipment and system selection, design, and control.
  • Additional experience in metal fabrication and/or manufacturing is an asset.
  • Membership or eligible for membership with APEGA.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into machines.
  • Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Competence in designing according to industry codes and standards.
  • Working knowledge of risk analysis and relevant legislative compliance.
  • Proven track record in managing large project budgets.
  • Practical experience with risk management, product design and testing, estimating, and project management.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite.
