The Role

Reporting to the Manager of NGTL/CGL Compression Operations Engineering, the Operations Engineer will oversee a designated geographic area, ensuring the operational efficiency and reliability of our compressor station assets. You will collaborate with a high-performing, multidisciplinary team, engaging with seasoned engineers, field specialists, and commercial operations personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform data collection and engineering evaluations to resolve issues, assess facility health, conduct root cause analyses, and execute risk assessments.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for field operations, including site visits to collaborate with senior reliability specialists and engineers on ongoing challenges.
  • Analyze operational and engineering data to identify performance issues, system inefficiencies, and opportunities for enhancing equipment reliability.
  • Facilitate risk assessments for operational decision-making regarding compression facilities.
  • Lead initiatives to implement treatment plans aimed at minimizing asset and system risks.
  • Conduct discussions on root cause analyses for equipment failures and assist in developing corrective action plans.
  • Offer operational support for ongoing GPMC projects to ensure that identified risks and proposed solutions are effectively managed.
  • Manage the development and implementation of Management of Change (MOCs) processes.
  • Prepare Engineering Justifications to provide technical recommendations for project requirements.
  • Develop handover scope packages for project management teams, outlining recommended solutions and alternatives.
  • Conduct fit-for-service and engineering assessments.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Technical Operating Procedures (TOPs).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in good standing.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Proven ability to drive change and assist others in adapting to a dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated capability to develop both short-term and long-term technical solutions to complex challenges.
  • Familiarity with engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issues and recommend enhancements.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting business priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Broad engineering knowledge and expertise.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, with an understanding of all aspects of facility operations.
  • Experience in failure investigation and root cause analysis, along with an understanding of damage mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of norms and standards related to equipment reliability, safety, and risk management.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to work independently, including at field locations.
  • Previous experience in maintenance processes and system development.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to provide a driver's abstract for review.
  • Willingness to stay away from the home base overnight, including living in company accommodations approximately 30% of the time.
