Animal Control/Facility Attendant II

This role is responsible for enforcing animal control regulations and bylaws, providing animal care and support, and maintaining the cleanliness of the Animal Shelter Facility. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Animal Control Officer and will be responsible for a variety of duties, including patrolling for and picking up stray animals, issuing dog licenses, and collecting fees.
Key Responsibilities- Animal Enforcement and Control
- Assist with enforcing animal control bylaws and regulations, investigate complaints, and patrol for stray animals.
- Catch and transport stray or deceased animals to the Animal Shelter.
- Feed, water, and care for animals while in custody.
- Sell dog licenses, collect fees, and issue receipts.
- Prepare all necessary paperwork and monthly reports.
- Apply euthanasia to animals, as required, and administer medication as needed.
- Clean the Animal Shelter, maintaining a high level of sanitation.
- Order and pick up supplies for the Animal Shelter.
- Refill animal waste bag dispensers.
- Reconcile cash float and prepare deposits.
- Provide reception duties for the Animal Shelter and deal with the public in a friendly and proficient manner.
- Education and Experience
- Secondary school graduation.
- Minimum of one year's related experience and a sound working knowledge of the methods and equipment used in the care, handling, and euthanasia of feral and stray animals.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and care for animals and livestock.
- Ability to operate related vehicles and equipment.
- Good working knowledge of City Animal Control Bylaws and related regulations.
- Computer experience, preferably in a Windows environment, with Word and Excel.
- Ability to perform clerical and bookkeeping tasks, handle and deposit cash receipts.
- Janitorial experience.
- Ability to work independently and accomplish tasks and assignments.
- Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- First Aid Training and ability to administer first aid and medication to animals.
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.
