Our Sports Medicine department is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of our NCAA Division II athletes, offering on-field injury management, return-to-play evaluations, and ongoing treatment. As the sole Canadian representative in the NCAA, we continually strive for excellence both on and off the field. Our diverse team, comprising Athletic Therapists, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Acupuncturists, and Massage Therapists, collaborates to deliver an outstanding experience for student-athletes.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Physiotherapy Manager, the Athletic Therapist plays a crucial role in the prevention, assessment, and treatment of sports-related injuries within the Physiotherapy Clinic and the varsity sports setting. This position is integral in supporting athletes across 17 NCAA Division II sports, providing medical assistance for both home and away games, and ensuring compliance with clinic policies and NCAA regulations. The Athletic Therapist also oversees the student trainer program, assists with summer camps and high school initiatives, and coordinates high school co-op placements. Responsibilities include screening for serious injuries, such as concussions, and making informed decisions regarding an athlete's treatment and readiness to return to activity safely. Additionally, the role involves organizing pre-season medical evaluations and ensuring athletes have appropriate medical insurance coverage.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, Science, or a related discipline, along with certification as a Certified Athletic Therapist through the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) and certification as a Sports First Responder. A minimum of two years of relevant experience in athletic therapy or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
