This position is in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.

Course Number and Title:
FRE227H5 F Teaching and Learning a Second/Foreign Language

Course Overview:
This course offers a foundational understanding of second language teaching methodologies, emphasizing the French language. Participants will explore essential pedagogical concepts and analyze the educational experiences of both first and second language learners. The course will also examine the roles of educators and students through the development of linguistic profiles and instructional materials.

Expected Course Enrollment: 45

Class Schedule: Thursdays 3:00 - 6:00pm

(NOTE: The mode of instruction for this course is anticipated to be in-person. However, should there be any changes, timely notifications will be provided.)

Sessional Appointment Dates: September to December

Compensation:
Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,930.79 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,326.62 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,570.02 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Education or a closely related discipline.
- Proven experience in university-level instruction of a course focused on second language pedagogy, particularly in French.
- (Near-)native proficiency in both spoken and written French.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course or a closely related subject.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Public School French curriculum.
- Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Responsibilities:
All standard duties associated with the design and instruction of a university credit course, including:
- Preparation and delivery of course content.
- Out-of-class engagement with students via email and office hours.
- Development, administration, and grading of assignments, tests, and examinations.
- Calculation and submission of final grades.
- Ordering of all necessary readings.
- Supervision of teaching assistants (if applicable) assigned to the course.
