Position Overview:

The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing public education through engaging programs and activities.

Program Implementation and Management: (60%)

The Coordinator will oversee the execution of educational initiatives for diverse audiences:

Facilitate K-12 STEM-focused programs, ensuring all preparatory and logistical aspects are effectively managed. Organize and conduct tours for educational institutions and the public, while coordinating exhibits at various locations. Lead interactive demonstrations and educational activities; ensure the maintenance of supplies and equipment necessary for program delivery. Provide updates on events and activities; manage promotional materials and maintain an active online presence. Support off-site educational activities as needed.

Program Design and Development (20%)

The Coordinator will be responsible for creating innovative programs, exhibits, and educational materials:

Design educational content for schools and community groups that aligns with institutional academic goals and meets K-12 educational standards. Develop public education initiatives and resources for the interpretation of STEM-related subjects. Collaborate with various groups and organizations to create engagement opportunities that reflect the institution's mission. Produce interpretive materials, exhibits, signage, and digital content.

Program Coordination and Administration (20%)

The Coordinator will:

Assist in supervising students and volunteers, ensuring quality standards are upheld within the educational programs. Maintain and update the program's website. Manage scheduling, registrations, and respond to inquiries through various communication channels. Keep a database of volunteers, disseminate information about opportunities, and coordinate volunteer involvement at events. Aid in the upkeep and management of educational displays and resources. Handle point-of-sale transactions and manage a small selection of retail offerings. Conduct weekly sales reconciliations and prepare sales reports (training will be provided).

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Marine Biology, Fisheries and Aquaculture, or a related field from an accredited institution. A background in marine science with a minimum of five years of relevant experience is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Proven experience in proposal writing, curriculum development, and K-12 education. Demonstrated experience in delivering public education and K-12 programs. Familiarity with educational curriculum requirements. Experience in managing social media platforms. Skills in developing interpretive materials. Experience in organizing and facilitating educational events. Proficiency in creating presentations and strong public speaking abilities. Effective group management skills. Excellent customer service capabilities. Highly organized with strong administrative skills. Proficient in word processing, MS Office, and Excel, with the ability to learn new software. A clean Criminal Records Review Program Clearance for working with children and vulnerable populations. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record. A valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate (or willingness to obtain post-employment). Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

A teaching diploma, degree, or equivalent experience; or a Master’s degree.
