Position Overview:
The primary responsibility of the Greenhouse Hygiene Specialist is to maintain a pristine environment within the greenhouse and ensure that all equipment is kept in optimal condition. This role involves monitoring for any food safety concerns and addressing them promptly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize approved sanitation agents to clean machinery, equipment, and surfaces that come into contact with food.
- Conduct thorough pressure washing and scrubbing of surfaces and equipment.
- Perform sweeping and mopping of floors; manage waste disposal effectively.
- Follow safety protocols related to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Food Safety.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned to support the team.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Proficient understanding of spoken English.
- Ability to read and interpret safety labels on chemical products.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in sanitation is advantageous.
- WHMIS certification is preferred.
- First aid certification is a plus.
- Forklift operation experience/certification is beneficial.
- Experience with tractor loaders is an asset.
Working Environment:
- Ability to work in warm and humid conditions typical of greenhouse settings.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, which may exceed 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to three hours at a time.
- Regularly climb ladders and stairs.
- Frequent crouching and kneeling required.
